Teesdale is a designated Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty and still has an abundance of natural hay meadows which in the spring are a glorious riot of colouer with the wonderful variety of rare and beautiful wild flowers.

Closer to home we have Barnard Castle a bustling market town with its own historic castle ruins and the famous Bowes Museum. A short drive in the opposite direction and we have the Highest market town in England Alston with its cobbled high street. Killhope leadmining centre is a short drive was you can go down the mine and experience how the lead and other minerals were mined over a hundred years ago.
The River Tees between High Force & Low Force is a popular place with canoeist all year round. To use this part of the river you should get in touch with Raby Estate for a day pass.
In early spring bird watchers start arriving in the hope of seeing the famous Black Grouse up around cow green. It is at this time of year they can be seen displaying while trying to attract a mate for the coming breeding season. We have a wonderful selection of visiting birds during the summer months including the Lapwing.

An hour’s drive will take you one of Englands largest shopping centres at the Metro Centre in Gateshead, also excellent shopping is on offer in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.
