Teesdale possesses a large number of very important attractions… and is central for exploring thise of several important other tourist areas.
Teesdale itself possesses numerous historic buildings such as Barnard Castle, Raby Castle, Bowes Castle, Egglestone Abbey. and Rokeby Park. In addition this is an important farming and lead mining area with remains of lead mining to be seen around the area as well as lime kilns such as the famous Parkers’ Kilns up Beck Road from Middleton-in -Teesdale.
Other attractions include Eggleston Gardens and Bowlees Visitor Centre. But Nature’s riches abound with many rare plants being found in the area, many protected in the Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve and the North Penninea Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This is fantastic walking country, the Pennine Way passing our door… and the river provides opportunities for fishing and white water canoeists.
